ProjeKct Four in Seattle are

11.32 ProjeKct Four in Seattle are burbling behind me. A suitable title, after Sid Smith, might be "Rubbadubbadubbadubba" but I know this as "Seizure". The most immediate and powerful of all P4 pieces, but I haven't yet heard a recording which does it justice.

Other listening for the day (in addition to several Haydn String Quartets) includes Soundscapes from the first lunchtime performance in the WFC, NY. I managed to find a tape of this (the other two marked as this performance were blank) and Alex at DGM World Central was able to recover the damaged DAT of the evening show, first day, from the inside of my machine.

In the mail: excitements! John Potter of the Hilliard Ensemble has sent me his new book "Vocal Authority - Singing Style And Ideology" (Cambridge UP 1998).

David Singleton is checking our de-distortified tape of Club Release No. 2, recently returned from the cleaners. This is our current work in the Music Room to send out shortly to the Club.

Meanwhile, coughing, sniffling, dribbling.

We have heard from Amy at DGM LA that Circuit City in Seattle has been selling Club Release No.1 and offered a customer No.2 when it's released.

Is there anyone in Washington State who might check their neighbourhood Circuit City and see if they have Club Releases in stock, please? Clearly, this is a violation of the Club.

The Late Shift is underway. David has increased the sonic quality of Club No.2 from "bootleg with lots of distortion" to 5 out of 10. Now very musical, good bootleg quality.

The opening of the show is two mellotrons attempting to simulate proximate tuning, followed by an introductory announcement from the guitarist. There remains some distortion, but it accompanies rather than dominates the playing. Overall, the sonics are much better than we had hoped.

Chris Murphy pops in and out, soon to have completed rough mixes of all the P4 dates. The second night in Boulder is NOT the one for Chris, he says.

Back to Club Release No. 2: "Cirkus" is powerful. Venal Leader reports that this features three instruments currently available for purchase: 2 x single manual mellotrons and 1 Hohner pianet. Currently we have received offers on the original double manual mellotrons (from "ITCOTCK" and "Poseidon") of £10,000 each.

Mel Collins, having honked through "Ladies", is now fluting on "Formentera Lady". Bozzell's tongue is performing aerobics as it seeks to accomodate itself to the Psyche Flapper's cruel demands. Melluish returns to tenor. Honk. Honk.

Good night.
